Discussed Southwest Water chemistry and how it could be adjusted for brewing beer.  Discussed the upcoming “A Chocolate Affair +” fundraiser for Best Friends Mentoring scheduled for April 21, 2018 at the Biesiot Activities Center.  Rocky ordered Cream Ale, Amber Ale, and IPA kits from Midwest Supplies to be delivered to Jon who will brew and condition them to be served at A Chocolate Affair +.  Jon displayed the new vinyl club banner printed by Service Printers.

Rocky collected dues from members for 2018.  Rocky moved to cast a unanimous ballot for another two-year term for Jerry Ford as president and Jon Stika as secretary.  Seconded by Casey.  Motion passed.  Rocky has purchased the carbon dioxide refill equipment and has it at his residence.  Rocky moved to charge club members $2/pound carbon dioxide to refill cylinders from the new carbon dioxide set-up.  Seconded by Jerry.  Motion passed.  Greg moved to have the club purchase two all-grain beer recipe kits to be brewed by Jon to refill the clubs two kegs.  Seconded by Ryan.  Motion passed.  Discussed cold-steeping dark malt/grains to reduce astringency in finished beer.  Bid Ellery best wishes in his move to Minot.

Discussed production of club banner.  Jon will pursue development of final design and production.  Greg, Jon, and Ryan gave a report on the Yuletyme event sponsored by the DSU Hertiage Foundation.  Rocky presented a sign-up sheet for club group subscription for Brew Your Own magazine for members to complete.  Motion by Jilek, second by Greg Walter for club to purchase a set-up for transferring carbon dioxide from a large (100 pound) cylinder to smaller cylinders.  Discussion on safety and that Rocky Stoltz would host and maintain the equipment.  Motion passed.  Motion by Jilek, second by Rocky Stoltz to submit form and fees to state of ND to renew club non-profit status.

Jacob Walter, Jon Stika, Ryan Jilek, and Greg Walter represented the Heart River Homebrewers by serving home-brewed beers at the Dickinson State University Heritage Foundation Yuletyme scholarship fundraising event at the Biesiot Activities Center on December 9, 2017.

Present: Kelli Sharf, Jerry Ford, Casey Ritz, Derek Fox, Greg Walter, Darrell Neubert, Steve Day, and Jon Stika.

Discussed club logo redesign and decided that the latest versions (one with river and buttes and one without) are both acceptable for use depending on the medium (print, embroidery, etc.).  Jon will contact Ryan Jilek to have club poster made with river and butte logo design.  Discussed club participation in Yuletyme fundraiser by the Dickinson State University Heritage Foundation.  Greg and Jon have committed to serve beer brewed by the club at the event on December 9th at the Biesiot Activities Center.  Ryan or Derek may also assist depending on who is available to do so. Discussed logistics for club member trip to Stonehome brewery in Watford City.  Jerry Ford and Derek Fox will coordinate trip with those that showed an interest in the Doodle poll conducted earlier.  Discussed club group subscription to Brew Your Own magazine.  Jon circulated a sign-up sheet which garnered four sign-ups.  Sheet will be circulated again at the December meeting to achieve at least ten sign-ups needed to participate in the group discount.  Discussed club malt order.  Jon has provided the order to Ryan Jilek.  Ryan will pick up the order when he is in Bismarck in the near future.

The September 2017 meeting was held at Greg Walter’s, but no business was conducted or minutes recorded.

The October 2017 meeting was held on November 2, 2017. Present: Ryan Jilek, Terris Dietz, Jerry Ford, Rocky Stoltz, Derek Fox, Craig Whippo, Ellery Dykeman, Greg Walter, and Jon Stika.

Discussed club logo design.  Jon will send out latest version for review.  Discussed group order of malt from Two-Track Malting.  Price for full 50 pound bags for homebrew clubs is $.68/pound.  Jon will send out email to compile an order from members.  Greg presented information about the Dickinson State University Heritage Foundation Yuletyme event scheduled for December 9th at the Biesiot Activities Center.    It was agreed that the club would participate by providing 2 or 3 beers.  Greg, Jon and Ryan volunteered to take part in the event.  Discussed a club trip to Stonehome brewpub in Watford City, ND.  Jon will send out a Doodle poll for dates between Thanksgiving and Christmas to see if a date for the trip can be determined.  Agreed that the November club meeting should be scheduled for November 30th to avoid a conflict with Thanksgiving.  Discussed beers that were brought by members for evaluation.

Discussed club logo redesign, wort aeration, brewing yeast management, and A Knight’s Brew beer event.  Jon reported that one club keg currently contains barrel-aged Wee Heavy and that he has brewed a club-purchased Belgian Blonde Ale kit to put in the other keg for serving at A Knight’s Brew on October 5, 2017.  Jon will pass long comments regarding the club logo design to Greg Walter for consideration and any revisions.

Discussed “A Knight’s Brew” charity event organized by Knight’s of Columbus scheduled for October 5th at the Dickinson Charities Bingo Hall south of WalMart.  The club will bring a keg of barrel-aged Wee Heavy that is now stored at Stika’s.  Motion by Stika seconded by Jilek for Rocky to purchase a beer recipe kit with club funds to fill the second club keg to also be served at “A Knight’s Brew”.  Motion passed.  Jon offered to brew the beer from the kit and bring it to the event.

Ryan presented copies of a design for the club banner.  Greg and Jacob Walter suggested artistic improvements to the design and will work on the design further.
