June 2012 Minutes of the Heart River Home Brewers

Present: Rocky Stoltz, Ryan Jilek, Jerry Ford, Alan Church, Dale Sattler, Paul Ellerkamp and Jon Stika.

Discussed the Heart River Home Brewers members-only competition scheduled for September 7th.  Jon handed-out competition entry forms.  Also discussed K of C beer event scheduled for September 27th at the Dickinson Recreation Center.  Reviewed photos and discussed stone (stein) beer brewed during the ND Brewers campout at Cross Ranch State Park last weekend.  Checked the empty wine barrel with an optic fiber scope to determine cleanliness and discussed cleaning, sanitizing and filling the barrel.  Jon and Ryan plan to brew more Imperial Stout to attain the needed volume to fill the barrel.  Jerry brought a Spruce Stout, Ryan brought a Spruce Lager and an Alaskan Smoked Porter, Paul brought sparkling Mead, Jon brought Baltika Russian lager, Rocky brought Cream Ale, Alan brought Oud Bruin and Dale brought Mint wine.

The HRHB club members only homebrew competition judging will take place on September 7^th, 2012 at the home of Jon & Eve Stika located at 1060 4^th Avenue East, Dickinson, ND.  Rocky Stoltz, Jerry Ford, Ryan Jilek and Jon Stika will serve as judges.  Entries are limited to 2 per member.  An entry will consist of a six-pack of 12 ounce bottles or a 2L growler.  Beer left over from judging will be available for consumption at the picnic.  All entries must be delivered to Jon Stika by Friday, August 31^st, 2012.  There is no entry fee.  Any style of beer is eligible for entry, but a Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) style category and subcategory must be designated on the entry form when the beer is delivered for judging.  BJCP style guidelines may be found at: http://www.bjcp.org/docs/2008_stylebook.pdf
